Benefits Of Washing Face With Oats

Before using oatmeal as face wash, let’s talk about oatmeal’s benefits. Did you know that many skincare products contain oatmeal? This is because oatmeal is great at treating problem skin.

Oatmeal works well for most skin types. It is wonderful at treating dry and irritated skin. For skin health, oatmeal can treat eczema, chickenpox, poison oak, and acne.

Oatmeal softens your skin and helps with anti-aging. When used, it helps your skin maintain a normal pH. As a result, oatmeal works well as a natural face wash. Since it doesn’t contain added chemicals, oatmeal is gentle and doesn’t dry out your skin. However, I still recommend to using a moisturizer after washing your face.

Oatmeal contains natural minerals and nutrients that promote skin health. It is a natural skin protectant and reduces inflammation. Oatmeal naturally relieves itchy skin. That is why many skincare products use it for its skin smoothing properties. When used as face wash, oatmeal gently exfoliates the skin.

I recommend incorporating oatmeal into your skincare routine to make the most of oatmeal’s skin benefits.

The Ultimate Skincare Guide To Washing Face With Oatmeal

Now that you have learned the wonderful skin benefits of oatmeal, let’s use oatmeal as face wash in our daily skincare routine! Depending on your preference, I’ve listed three methods for washing face with oats.

Using Dry Oats

  1. To get started, grab a generous pinch of dry oats and place it on the palm of your hand.
  2. Wet the oatmeal with a little bit of water.
  3. Press down on the oatmeal with your fingers. You’ll notice a milky fluid coming from the oatmeal.
  4. Continue wetting and pressing on the oatmeal until the dry oats have turned into a soft paste on the palm of your hand. It’ll take about three times of wetting and pressing until the oatmeal is ready.
  5. Rub the paste onto your face using tiny circular movements.
  6. Rinse off all the oatmeal on your face.
  7. Moisturize your skin with a moisturizer of your choice.

Using Powdered Oatmeal (also known as colloidal oatmeal)

  1. Pour as much oatmeal as you desire into a blender.
  2. Blend the oats until it turns into a fine powder. You just created colloidal oatmeal! You can store this powder into a dry mason jar until your next cleansing session.
  3. Place a generous pitch of colloidal oatmeal onto your palm and wet with a little bit of water.
  4. Mix the powdered oatmeal and water together with your fingers until it has turned into a paste. Add more water or powder as needed.
  5. Like in the previous method, rub the paste onto your face using tiny circular movements.
  6. Rinse off the oatmeal paste on your face.
  7. Moisturize your skin with a moisturizer of your choice.

If you prefer, you can purchase pre-made colloidal oatmeal like the one above.

Make A Boiled Oatmeal Paste

  1. Boil a small amount of water in a pot (you can also microwave water).
  2. Add your desired amount of oatmeal into the water.
  3. Stir the oatmeal until it turns into a paste.
  4. Wait for the paste to cool down completely.
  5. Use this paste as a face wash and rinse off with water.
  6. Moisturize your skin with a moisturizer of your choice.

Now you know how to use oatmeal as face wash! Since I don’t own a blender, I personally use dry oats. However, dry oats can be harder to clean because of its large particles.

If you have time, you can make a boiled oatmeal paste. This can be a great method to make a batch of oatmeal paste for multiple people. However, you won’t be able to store this paste for a long period of time.

If you have a blender, I recommend making colloidal oatmeal to use in your skincare. Otherwise, make sure you have a towel to catch the oatmeal from clogging your drain. I cleanse my face over the kitchen sink for this reason! I’m glad the sink has a garbage disposal!

If you are looking for a natural ingredient with easier cleanup, try using honey instead.

What Type Of Oatmeal Should I Use On My Face?

Any type of oatmeal works great for a skin cleanser. When washing face with oatmeal, always use plain oats. Although delicious for breakfast, you should never use flavored oatmeal on your face. Try any plain oatmeal you already have at home.

For your face or any other part of your body, always use a plain oatmeal like the one above.

Other Ways To Use Oatmeal For Your Skin

Besides washing face with oatmeal, you can utilize oatmeal into other parts of your skincare routine. Oatmeal contains wonderful skin benefits so make the most of it!

Using Oatmeal In Your Bath

Oatmeal is a low-cost and great household product to put into your bath. When using oatmeal in your bath, I recommend using colloidal oatmeal. Before placing into your tub, make sure the powder can dissolve into the water. This will ensure an easy cleanup and unclogged drains.

If you have to use dry oats, wrap the oats with a thin cloth like a cheese cloth. Once the oats have mostly absorbed into the bath water, remove it from the tub.

Using Oatmeal As A Face Mask

Oatmeal makes a wonderful facial cleanser and even better face mask! It contains minerals and nutrients that make your skin healthy and glow. Use oatmeal as a face mask to let your skin to absorb healthy vitamins and nutrients to promote healthy skin.

When making a face mask, you can place smushed wet oats or a colloidal oatmeal paste onto your face. Wet oats can make a harder cleanup so I recommend using colloidal oatmeal. Avoid placing oatmeal over your eye area. Allow the oatmeal to sit on your face for 10-15 minutes. Wash your face with water afterwards.

You can use an oatmeal face mask a few times a week. To avoid drying up your skin, always moisturize your face afterwards.

You can also add other ingredients into your oatmeal paste for additional skin benefits. Consider adding yogurt, honey, milk, or bananas.

Using Oatmeal As A Body Scrub

Oatmeal is great at gently exfoliating away dead skin. Try using oatmeal on your body to get beautiful, soft skin! When using oatmeal on your body, make sure that the oatmeal paste is soft.

Oatmeal can reduce skin discoloration and scars. It also is a skin brightener. If you have skin acne, an oatmeal scrub or bath can be a great to treat it. Scrub the oatmeal paste gently onto your skin.

I recommend mixing colloidal oatmeal with a little bit of water to scrub onto your skin. This will also make an easier cleanup if you are scrubbing your skin in your tub or shower.

For easier cleanup and a quicker routine, consider purchasing oatmeal skincare products like the scrub above.

Eating Oatmeal

Oatmeal is beneficial for your body and a healthy way to start your day. Oatmeal is packed with fibers, antioxidants, and vitamins. It is high in fiber and proteins.

Oatmeal contains manganese which is an important mineral for healing wounds and producing collagen. It also contains magnesium which helps improve skin health and reducing acne. Magnesium is the key to getting clear, even skin. Oatmeal also contains zinc which helps heals rashes and rejuvenates skin.

Oatmeal provides vitamin B1 which is great for both people acne-prone and dry skin. Vitamin B1 helps with anti-aging by reducing the appearance of wrinkles. Oatmeal also contains Vitamin B5 (also known as panthenol) which is anti-inflammatory and helps the skin hold moisture. It gives the appearance of supple, soft skins.

Besides washing face with oatmeal, I recommend eating it for breakfast (if you don’t already) for its skin benefits. While using oatmeal as face wash, can give amazing skin benefits, it is important to supply important nutrients in your body to encourage skin healing, clear skin, and collagen production.

Is It Safe To Use Oatmeal On Your Face?

Don’t worry, oatmeal is considered safe for most people. However, oatmeal is not safe for people who are allergic to it.

If you are unsure, conduct a skin patch test before washing face with oats. Rub oatmeal paste onto a small patch of skin and see how your body reacts. If you develop a rash, you should not use oatmeal on your skin. Immediately wash your skin with soap and water as soon as you see a reaction.

If you are concerned or are trying to treat a skin condition, I recommend consulting a doctor before using oatmeal as face wash. While oatmeal can do wonders for your skin, you should always ask for a doctor’s advice if you are looking for medical treatment.

My Daily Oatmeal Cleansing Routine

I personally use oatmeal as my daily facial cleanser. I find it less harsh than other skin cleansers and it leaves my face feeling clean. After washing face with oats, my nightly skincare routine includes slapping on a few drops of argan oil and then using my gua sha stone.

This routine has been effective keeping my spending down, as well as, my skin healthy, tight, and bouncy.

After cleansing, my face feels soft, exfoliated, and clean. Oatmeal works as a wonderful natural cleanser and doesn’t contain added chemicals. Most days, I just have a layer of sunscreen on my face. Oatmeal is effective at removing it at night.

If I have facial makeup on, I add an extra step to my skincare routine. I remove my makeup first with argan oil and a soft washcloth before cleansing my face with oatmeal.

This skincare routine works well for me. My skin can easily get red and irritated with certain skin care products. I also have oily, acne prone skin. Since using oatmeal as face wash, my face is less greasy during the day and I rarely get pimples. Oatmeal is an effective skin cleanser, cost-wise and skin health-wise.

Since I use dry oats, I can understand if the cleanup is too much for a skincare routine. When I lived and shared a bathroom with several roommates, this facial routine was too time consuming because of the cleanup. Now that I finally live in an apartment with a kitchen and garage disposable, my cleansing routine is much quicker because I just rinse the sink after washing face with oatmeal.

If the cleanup is too time consuming, use a natural soap to cleanse your face. The soap above contains oatmeal as well as other natural ingredients as such goat’s milk, raw honey, and shea butter.

Conclusion: Washing Face With Oatmeal

I recommend incorporating oatmeal into your skin routine. Oatmeal is gentle and works for most skin types. It is also inexpensive! I personally recommend washing face with oats because of its low-cost, and exfoliating and skin cleansing properties.

If you use dry oats, the only downside is its cleanup. However, I still believe it is worth it! If you have troubled skin, I would give oatmeal a shot. My only advice, when using oatmeal as a face wash, is to make sure that the oatmeal is a soft paste before rubbing it into your skin.

If adding oatmeal into your skincare is too time-consuming, I recommend trying out skincare products that contain oatmeal. Many products such as face washes, lotions, and face masks contain oatmeal. These products can be a great alternative to using raw oats.

You can simply consume oatmeal to get its essential nutrients and vitamins! It is important to heal your skin inside and out. Try eating some oatmeal for breakfast!

I hope this post gave you helpful tips for washing face with oatmeal. Oatmeal has made a huge impact on my skin. I would love to hear how oatmeal has impacted your own skin. If you haven’t tried oatmeal yet, but is planning to, let me know how it goes!
